Just add water

I came to the conclusion that I need a new car Monday morning when Teh 1!!1 sat down in the passenger seat and it made a light squishing sound. Seems the seals surrounding the moonroof of my fine American automobile have started to give out, resulting in leakage and a soaked fanny. Fortunately, it hasn’t rained all that much this week, so there hasn’t been a repeat. But that’s just a matter of time, since the Florida rainy season is upon us with all the fury that nature permits without sinking this fine state into the sea upon which it is so tenuously built.

So, I’m in the hunt for a vehicle. And I haven’t the slightest idea as to what I want. I’m pretty sure something with cargo space is not a bad idea, but I’m not totally sure I need it. So please - your thoughts on the appropriate vehicle for a thirty year old geek.

Anyone recommending Scions will be banned. Pretty much everything else is fair game.

The Chronicles of Riddick:

A science fiction
ass kicking. Turns Pitch Black on
it’s head. More, kthx.

  1. Barring the abomination that is Scion, I’d recommend anything from Toyota. If you’re looking for cargo space you can get into a used 4Runner in the $15-20k range.
The Prius has huge geek appeal.

I hear Hondas are nice. But the one and only time I drove one it was craaaap.

  2. Well, as an avid SUV owner the last few years, I can honestly say with gas prices being what they are, it SUCKS to fill up the tank. My Durango takes about $40 to satisfy its insatiable thirst.

But as far as running those Ford Focus’s (Foci?) off the road, not to mention the terror it sends into the hearts of bicyclists and children in cross walks, owning an SUV has a safe, American feeling to it that you just don’t get driving a Camry.

God Bless America and God Bless Big Oil for forcing me to be such a glutton and strain on society, the environment, and my family.

  3. Just got a 2004 Honda Civic LX and I love it. Plenty of room in the backseat for Trini’s carseat and 1-2 people (depending on size) and plenty of room in the front seat. The trunk is big enough for a 12inch bass cannon and a large stroller, with some room left over. Even if that’s not the car for you the other Honda cars are really nice :)

  4. Subaru WRX wagon!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GF just bought one, and I love it. I would get one, but I don’t want us to match. I am in the market as well, but can’t quite bring myself to buy the Lexus IS 300 that I love. Something about the $33k price tag…

  5. These are so pretty… Fell in love when we rented one to travel cross country. We’ll probably take the Saturn customer loyalty and run with it.

  6. Brett, if you buy a Subaru, I will not olnly disown you…I will kill you. All you need to know about Subaru is summed up by the phrase “Our reputation rides wit choo”

  7. Even tho it’s a Ford I hear good things about the Escape.

  8. California Emmy update!! Not huge, but some good stuff!!

  9. Good job getting one each of grandma AND grandpa in there. Those ARE grandpa’s legs, I’m assuming? =)

  10. Don’t listen to Kent, Brett. He drives American cars….ON PURPOSE!

  11. Best car , I ever owned was a Nissan Ultima. Good gas milage, roomy, nice and smooth to drive and they purdy too :) Never had any problems with is and I would buy another. They are also decently priced.

    does that help?

  12. Can you say matchbox car on wheels? do not buy a focus, that is all.

  13. Just took a look at a coworker’s 3. Sweeeet. I used to have a 626, which I drove into the ground, so Mazda is on the watch list.

  14. Ford Focus? Shite!
