Hired! (pt. 1)

Yes, she got the job. Fortunately, the criminal background check found neither her 6 months in the slam for mail fraud, nor her conviction for running a meth lab when she was in Idaho (she was given probation). So, congratulations baby. For the time being, she’s going to have to take the bus to work - fortunately, there’s a park and ride with a direct line to downtown, about 3 blocks from her new office, and not only did the people waiting at the stop not look seedy, they actually seemed to be employed! So, I feel pretty confident with this situation on the whole, until we get her licensed and a second car drops out of the sky for her. Or, I get to write Hired, pt.2 (which I’m hoping will be fairly soon…)

For all you EQ geeks out there (read: two of you). you already know about the Fan Faire, the semi-annual gathering of EverCrack addicts put together by the crack makers themselves. This run, a bunch of guild members will be in attendance, and The Roomie and I had been discussing attending, but decided against it, the move and everything kinda taxed our resources a bit. It’s too bad, I would actually like to meet some of the faces behind the people I have gotten to know in the game, especially after meeting a few of them already. And a visit to the Windy City would have been fun in it’s own right.

Badgers badgers badgers badgers badgers badgers badgers badgers. (Yeah, I’m late on that one. So sue me.)

I’ve seen a slew of movies lately. The Rundown, Dickie Roberts Jr., Underworld, not to mention far to many DVDs. I would post some haiku madness…but I’m feeling lazier than usual - not to mention I’m being watched at work now by the thought police. Maybe later, when I can work up some privacy to work out syllables while clapping my hands.

In other news

Hey MCG, it seems that somebody liked your idea.

In the criminal justice system…

And here's what I think of that pissant Toby Keith!TNT had 5 hours of Law and Order on last night. FIVE. And guess who watched most of them. No, really, guess. I feel like I have Briscoe hangover following that - oh, did I mention that I hadn’t seen any of those episodes, and since they were all new to me so I HAD to watch them entirely? I fear for the welfare of any children I may have should the L&O juggernaut not be stopped. Juggernaut, you ask? Well, in addition to multiple hours of L&O, they will also be doing SVU every night at 11 starting next week, AFTER their weekend SVU marathon. I’m telling you people, it won’t be long until there’s a Law and Order channel on TV, only they’ll have to carry Homicide: Life on the Streets as well, in order to show the two or three crossover episodes they made in their entirety. Once that happens, I will never be seen again.

One of us is getting phonecalls for job interviews left and right - and it ain’t me. One today, one tomorrow, and one Thursday so far - but I’m willing to bet she’s nearly locked up by that point. While good for her, it frustrates me somewhat. Sure, I’m employed, but I’ll be the first to tell you it’s not my ideal job, and I would be loving life if I got calls daily offering me work. Damnable tech industry, why do you torture me so?!?!

Ooooooh, a movie review. Matchstick Men.

It’s not obsessive
compulsive disorder. Just
a yeast infection.

I think there’s too many syllables in that. Oh well, the Haiku Police can come arrest me.

I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die

Perhaps I am one of those jaded people that refuses to dwell on the past. Remember it, yes. But I don’t need to hold ceremonies every year to remember tragic events. I’m sure that many people who had closer ties to those who died on September 11th may not agree with me, but as an American, all I can think to do to honor the memory of those that died, and those that serve, is to continue living in the best possible way I know how.

This does not mean we cannot mourn our more recent losses, however. John Ritter died of sudden heart problems - and as much as each and every one of you hates to admit it, you’ve laughed at a TV show he’s been in, even if it was a side note to staring at Suzanne Somers rack as a younger lad. And I hear he had a fairly successful TV show going these days as well, but I wouldn’t know since I can’t possibly turn off Law and Order when it’s on, and it’s ALWAYS on somewhere.

And while not quite as tragic due to his known health problems, the passing of Johnny Cash saddens me deeply. For a man who was as popular at the height of his career, and perhaps more so, than The Beatles at that time. I wouldn’t call the man in black the antihesis to Elvis, but his music was certainly more in touch with the people he wanted to reach. And also unlike Elvis, he was able to overcome his addictions, although he always fought with some personal demons all his life. His web site was down at the time of this post, but I’m sure will be up sooner or later. And if you haven’t heard it, The Man Comes Around is an incredible album, and his cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” has the most profound sense of grief I have ever heard in a song.

But like I said, I plan on honoring by carrying on with my life. However, as a tribute to those who have just passed, I plan on moving in with a couple young girls, pretend I’m gay, and learn to play the guitar. Or not. Actually, I have more than enough trouble handling the one young spitfire I have now. Two would, most likely, cause me to join John and Johnny in that last great mystery of the universe.

E-A-G-L-E-S!

Thank God it’s football season. I thought I was gonna go crazy during the preseason that never ends and get down to some real games. So, what do we have, now that we’re at the end of week one? The Dolphins are stinking up Miami, Kurt Warner is doing his Troy Aikman imitation, and, oh yeah, the Bucs are the best team in football. But some of us already knew that. Yeah, they had a rocky start, but it’s week 1 of a real game, some cobwebs need to be cleared. But the first salvo has been fired - the Buc defense is as suffocating as ever, and the offense can get the job done without having to toss Alstott at the goal line over and over. I was looking forward to this season, and game one has definitely lived up to my expectations.

Body Massage. That one was for MCG, who has been keeping me up to date on these great GIJoe informational snippets, because knowing is half the battle.

I had this great rant all worked out in my head, but it’s all kind of disappeared with the enormous amount of work I’ve managed to find myself buried under. I’m sure I’ll remember it one of these days, it was pretty good. No, I don’t remember the topic. Why are you laughing?

Somebody here has a job interview today, and it isn’t the cat. Wishing her luck today.

Bad words make baby Jesus cry

So, this settling in thing is going swimmingly. Some stuff is already put away, other stuff is in a holding pattern while we make room, and even yet more stuff has to be given away (that would be my stuff). Oh, and we need a coffee maker. But I think that got ordered today.

*checks*

Yeah, it’s ordered.

Haven’t heard back from L-Town about the Andrew W.K. show at the Bottleneck, but since he’ll be here in a couple weeks, I may have to see if my new roommate (/ducks) wants to go to the show. Oh yeah, and his new album is called The Wolf. Anyone else would get laughed out of the record store, but our man Andrew can pull that title off without breaking a sweat.

Random linking is your friend. You all heard it, but it must be true, because you read it on the Internet: roleplaying games are the work of Satan. See? Not all Iraqis hate George W. Look out Teen Beat, there’s a new sherrif in town - or is that Apostle? If I ever get married, I may not have an open bar.

Oh, and congratulations, MCG. Good to see you moving out of that sick building and into a real career. I’m proud of you.
